I dedicate my paintings in the show to my mother, Helen Keri* Lai.
Banana Trees Grow in the snow
No Country is foreign
Nothing is ever gone
My exhibit starts with the painting, "Tainan Forever", (Tainan: Mom's birthplace, the place I spent every Summer in my childhood, Grandpa's brick Dutch House, banana trees in the court yard) and ends with the diptych, "Sunday with Mama", I did just a few weeks ago.
Nothing is ever gone. I simply reclaimed what I thought was lost through my paintings.
*Keri is Mom's name in Japanese, her first language
